Retirement savings calculator

Calculate how much to save each month to fund the lifetime pension you want at retirement, based on your age, starting capital and expected return.

What it calculates

How much you need to save each month, from your current age to retirement, to fund a private lifetime pension of the amount you want.

What you need

  • Current age, retirement age and sex.
  • The capital you have already saved.
  • The monthly pension you want.
  • The expected return while saving and during retirement.

How it is calculated

  1. Required fund: the present value of a lifetime monthly pension, based on the return during retirement and life expectancy at your retirement age.
  2. Monthly saving: the payment that, with your starting capital and its return, reaches that fund at retirement.

Example

A 35-year-old woman who wants to retire at 65 with USD 800 a month, with no starting capital and a 4% return before and after retiring, needs to save about USD 260.98 a month for 30 years, building a fund of USD 179,428.18.

This is a financial and actuarial projection, not an IESS benefit, and it does not replace the IESS pension. Estimate that one with the IESS old-age retirement simulator.
